Diane’s acting journey epitomizes what Spotlight stands for in the fact that she did not pursue a formal education in acting. As an alumni of Spotlight Academy, Diane has now been cast in six feature films, with roles that include a doctor, tyrannical mother, federal agent, pastor, and a police detective. In achieving this, Diane also attained full Union status- all without having to travel to the mainland to work as an actor. She continues to hone her skills by attending Spotlight workshops, practicing with fellow actors in her home studio, and drawing from the teachings of LA acting coach, Margie Haber. In addition to live stage performances, Diane has told numerous stories to adult audiences as a member of Nanaimo’s Around Town Tellers, and she was elected to share one of her original stories at the 2009 National Storytelling Conference in Victoria.
As a single mother, Diane appreciates the challenges that many Spotlight students encounter- trying to pursue an acting career while balancing the ongoing demands of work, family, and further education. Diane’s wish is to encourage and motivate young actors to achieve the working actor status, and to realize this goal is attainable right here in their own backyard, without having to leave the island.
